Yucatan edged to the top of the group with a comfortable win over a young Puebla team after Quintana Roo had earlier pipped Veracruz thanks to a last minute winner.
Quintana Roo took the lead early before Veracruz equalised before the end of the first half. In a tight but exciting end to end game it took a last minute winner to break the deadlock.
Puebla, a young side with several 2002 & two 2003 players in the squad, made a feisty start but ultimately two decisive moves in the first half gave Yucatan a comfortable lead and it was never in doubt who was going to win.
However, this was not an emphatic performance by Yucatan and they will need to up their game a few gears to compete against Veracruz on Tuesday.
It’s difficult to imagine Veracruz or Quintana Roo dropping points against Puebla and so the easiest path to the last 16 would be to defeat Veracruz on Tuesday.
